Your Data Security

At Resume Applier, security is foundational. Your resume contains sensitive personal and professional information — contact details, work history, skills. Our local-first architecture ensures your data stays on your device, encrypted and under your control.

Local-First Architecture with AES-256 Encryption

All resume data, personal information, and application history is stored locally in your browser using Chrome's Storage API with AES-256 encryption. API keys are encrypted before storage. Data never leaves your device unless you explicitly enable optional cloud sync. Even our team cannot access your stored data.

Minimal Permission Model

Resume Applier requests only the Chrome permissions needed to function: storage for your data, scripting to detect and fill forms, tabs for navigation, and host permissions for supported job sites. We follow Chrome's strict Content Security Policy and undergo Chrome Web Store security review.

No Server-Side Data Collection

Unlike other job tools, Resume Applier has no backend database storing your resumes. There is no account required for the free tier. We don't track your browsing, log your applications, or build profiles. The extension communicates only with AI model endpoints for resume tailoring — and you can bring your own API key to eliminate even that.

Our architecture is designed so that even in a worst-case scenario, there is no central database of user resumes to breach.

What Data We Access

Transparency about data access is essential. Here's exactly what Resume Applier can see and what it cannot.

Data We Access During Operation

When you click apply on a job page, Resume Applier reads the job description text to tailor your resume, detects form fields to auto-fill them, and may take a page screenshot for Vision AI analysis (Premium plan). This data is processed in-memory and sent only to the configured AI endpoint for tailoring. It is not stored on any server.

Data We Never Access

Resume Applier does not access your browsing history, other tabs, personal files, email, social media, passwords, financial information, or any data outside the active job page. We don't use tracking pixels, fingerprinting, or analytics beyond basic Chrome Web Store install counts.

We believe in collecting the absolute minimum data needed to provide the service. If we don't need it, we don't touch it.

Privacy and Transparency

You should know exactly what's happening with your data at all times.

Full Data Visibility and Control

View all stored data directly in the extension settings. See your parsed resume, saved personal info, application history, and AI configuration. Export everything as JSON at any time. Delete all data with one click — it's immediately and permanently removed from your browser.

Open About Our AI Usage

Resume tailoring sends your resume text and the job description to an AI model endpoint. By default, this uses our hosted models. You can switch to your own API key for OpenAI, Anthropic, or self-hosted models for complete control. We document exactly what data is sent in each AI request.

No Dark Patterns

No upsell popups during applications. No artificial urgency. No hidden limits. No sharing your data with recruiters or employers. The extension does what it says — helps you apply to jobs faster — and nothing else.

We built Resume Applier for ourselves first. We treat your data the way we want ours treated.

Compliance

Resume Applier's local-first architecture inherently simplifies compliance since we don't store user data centrally.

GDPR Compliance

Since data is stored locally on your device, you have inherent control over your personal data. We provide clear data export and deletion tools. Our privacy policy documents all data practices transparently. No cross-border data transfer concerns since your data stays on your machine.

CCPA Compliance

We don't sell personal information. We don't share data with third parties for advertising. You can delete all data at any time. Our privacy policy provides full disclosure of data practices in compliance with California Consumer Privacy Act requirements.

Chrome Web Store Policies

Resume Applier complies with all Chrome Web Store policies including the limited use policy for user data, permission justification requirements, and content security policies. Our extension undergoes Google's review process before each update.

Our local-first design means compliance is built into the architecture, not bolted on.

Data Retention and Deletion

You control your data lifecycle completely.

You Control Retention

Data persists in your browser until you delete it or uninstall the extension. There are no automatic expiration policies — your application history and resume versions stay as long as you want them. Clear individual items or everything at once.

Complete Deletion

Click 'Delete All Data' in settings to permanently remove all stored information. Uninstalling the extension also removes all data. Since nothing is stored server-side, deletion is immediate and irreversible — there are no backups to worry about.

Data Portability

Export all your data (resumes, application history, settings) as JSON at any time. Import it on another machine or keep it as a backup. You're never locked into Resume Applier.

Your data, your rules. We provide the tools, you make the decisions.
